šŸ”” Feature Update as of May 2026: Booking Performance Improvements

  • Booking availability calculations have been updated to significantly improve performance in the Customer Portal.

  • Customers may notice faster load times when viewing available bookings. To support this improvement, availability updates are now processed in the background when changes are made in the admin.

As a result, changes made on the admin side may take a short time to be reflected in the Customer Portal. This shift moves processing off the front end and helps deliver a faster, more consistent booking experience for customers.

šŸ“ Overview

We’re excited to introduce enhancements to Online Booking designed to give your organization more flexibility and improve the member booking experience. Historically, all rental bookings were forced into a one-size-fits-all model—defaulting to a single ā€œRentalā€ event type. This meant custom forms, setup/takedown times, and images were shared across all rentals, even when they should have differed.

With this update, you can now configure multiple rentable event types, each with its own booking settings. Whether you're managing birthday parties, field rentals, or batting cages, you'll be able to tailor the experience to the specific needs of each rental type.

šŸŽÆ Goal: To support individualized configuration per event type, improving member experience and increasing booking volume.

šŸ”§ Pages Updated to Support This Feature

Several areas within Dash have been updated to support this functionality. Below are the pages/places affected, along with links to their respective (Beta-specific) Help Center articles for detailed guidance.

Event Types

Click the arrow to learn how the Event Type page changed

  • āœ… New toggle: ā€œIs rentable in member appā€

  • ā— The built-in "Rental" type allows you to choose a display name to show on the Rental page in the Member app. It will default to "Rental" if left blank. If this built-in type is tied to a Resource with a Booking Option that has online booking ā€˜disabled’ the Event Type will not show to customers in the online experience.

🌐 What’s New in the Customer Portal for Online Bookings?

Customers booking rentals online will now experience a more intuitive and tailored process. Key improvements include:

šŸ·ļø Customizable Rental Tab Name

Click the arrow to learn more about the customizable rental name

Admins can now customize the name displayed for the Online Booking section in the Customer Portal. By default, this is set to "Rentals," but it can be updated to better reflect your organization's terminology.

The Online Booking Name field is located within the Online Booking slideout panel on the Integrations & Add-ons page. The name you set will appear in the following places in the Customer Portal:

  • Sidebar tab

  • Booking page title

  • Booking page heading

āœļø Note: This field is only accessible when Online Booking is enabled. If the add-on is disabled and later re-enabled, any previously saved custom name will be preserved.

šŸ” Improved Rental Search Experience

Click the arrow to learn more

  • Start page defaults to the customers location, but they can always choose to see other locations or all locations

  • Customers only see Event Types available for each specified location

  • Filters are still accessible but no longer front and center

Each Event Type can have it’s own image & description - this is the first thing your customer will see!

🧩 Multiple Event Types per Resource

Allows you to offer more than one Event Type (like birthday party & field rental) on the same resource

āš ļø You can only select one booking option per Resource, so any Event Types on the same resource will have to share the same availability and cost.

šŸ“ Custom Forms Aligned with Event Type

Customers won’t have to answer irrelevant questions!

  • Birthday Party might ask about birthday child info or cake preference

  • Field Rental could ask about sport being played, or number of participants on the field

āš ļø Important Booking Limitation

At this time, customers cannot complete checkout if their cart contains multiple booking types, such as both a "Request to Book" and a "Book-Only rental". To complete a booking, please ensure all items in the cart are the same type.

Additionally, customers cannot book multiple events of different event types in a single transaction. For example, a customer cannot book a birthday party and a field rental together online; these must be completed as separate checkouts.

Right now, you also can’t set up multiple booking options for the same resource. For example, if you want people to be able to book both a birthday party and a full field rental for the same field, you’ll need to create a duplicate ā€œvirtualā€ resource. This way, each event type can have its own booking option.

šŸ’” Pro Tips

  • āš ļø Double-check toggles: Make sure both the Event Type ("Is rentable in member app") and Resource ("Enable Online Bookings/Rentals") settings are enabled.

  • 🧠 Use clear names: Rename your Event Types so members easily understand what they’re booking (e.g., ā€œBatting Cageā€ vs. ā€œRentalā€).

  • šŸ’¬ Add images: Resources with images are more likely to be booked online.

  • ā›” Don’t mix booking types: Customers can’t checkout with both Request-to-Book and Book-Only rentals in the same cart.

  • šŸ“Œ Test member view: After setup, log in as a member to confirm the rental appears correctly online.

I think I set everything correctly, but I'm still not seeing rentals in the member online experience. What could be wrong?

Click the arrow to see the answer

  • Check that the Event Type has the toggle ā€œIs rentable in member appā€ enabled.

  • Verify the Resource has Enable Online Bookings/Rentals turned on.

  • Ensure the Resource has a valid Booking Option set to "Online Enabled."

  • If the built-in "Rental" Event Type is tied to a Resource with online booking disabled, it won’t display.

  • Ensure the product tied to the Booking Option is available online

Why do I only see one option when I expected multiple rentals for the same resource?

Click the arrow to see the answer

  • Each Resource can only be tied to one Booking Option.

  • If you need multiple booking configurations (like hourly rentals and parties for the same space), create a duplicate ā€œvirtualā€ resource. This allows each Event Type to have its own booking option.

Why isn’t the image I added for a Resource showing up in the member app?

Click the arrow to see the answer

  • Confirm you uploaded the image in the Resource Settings section under ā€œEnable Online Bookings/Rentals.ā€

  • Make sure the image was saved and the Resource itself is active.

  • Only images added at the Resource level display in the member online view

    • Event Type images display in a different section.

Can members filter available rentals by location or event type?

Click the arrow to see the answer

  • Yes. The rental search defaults to the customer’s location, but members can switch to view all locations.

  • Filters are still available, but they are no longer the first thing members see. Instead, they can refine the search after browsing.

Why can’t my members complete checkout when booking multiple rentals?

Click the arrow to see the answer

  • Customers cannot check out with a mix of different booking types (e.g., one Request-to-Book rental and one Book-Only rental).

  • To complete a booking, all rentals in the cart must use the same booking type.
