Overview

The “My Upcoming Events” table towards the bottom of the Member app Dashboard has been replaced by a short list of events at the top of the Dashboard. This list is a snapshot of the next 3 events scheduled for the user’s family, and includes a “View All Events” link to the Activities page at the bottom. The “Facility Upcoming Events” table has been removed, but there’s still a “Calendar” link at the top of the Dashboard for users to see public facility events.

How it Looks

This introduces family color-coding to the Member app, to help the user begin to more quickly parse who the events are for. There is a legend right above the events list showing what colors the listed family members have. There are currently 9 colors, as adding in any more results in colors looking too similar, or contrast issues. The signed in customer will see themselves as blue, and family members get assigned the other 8 colors as they’re added.

FAQ or Good Things to Know

  • How are colors picked? There is an array of colors in the back-end that we draw from. Colors are added to Relationships, not Customers. When a new relationship is added to a customer’s account, we check the family length against the list of colors and assign the next unused color on the list.

  • What about big families? For any family of 10+ customers, there aren’t enough unique colors, so colors aren’t used, and first name + last initial (e.g Tony S., Bruce B.) are shown instead.

  • What about single person accounts? If there is no one else added as a family member, the user will not see colors OR their name, because they’re the only person events could be for. (But the header for this section says ‘My Upcoming Events’ so we’re still explicit that these are user events!)

  • What about colors and visual accessibility? If a user has difficulty with the family colors, they can still go to the Activities page and use the Events tables there, complete with registrant. As a follow-up to this ticket, especially before any other tables get replaced, we would like to add a toggle to the Profile page to disable family colors and only use names.

  • Are there plans for more customization of the family colors? Not at this time but but we are considering in the future to allow the user the ability to update or change their family colors by allowing them to choose from a spread of colors provided.
