πŸ“ Overview

Cash Drawer allows you to connect a physical cash drawer to your computer so it automatically pops open when a cash sale is completed. With the correct permissions, staff can also manually open the drawer when needed, helping streamline cash handling while maintaining proper controls.

πŸ’΅ Automatic cash drawer opening

When a cash transaction is completed, the connected cash drawer is automatically prompted to open. This applies to cash payments processed from the Cash Register page as well as program registrations and other checkout flows. Opening the drawer allows staff to place cash in the drawer or provide change as needed.

If a default receipt printer or cash drawer has not been selected, a prompt appears asking the user to choose which cash drawer should open. This ensures the correct drawer is used when multiple drawers or printers are available.

πŸ”“ Manual cash drawer opening

Users with the appropriate authorization can manually open the cash drawer without completing a transaction. A Cash Drawer button appears at the top of the Point of Sale page and the Cash Register (legacy) page, allowing staff to open the drawer as needed.

πŸ“Š Reporting

If you need to review how often the cash drawer has been opened and which employee opened it, you can view this activity in System Events.

To access this information:

  • Navigate to System Events using the Global Search.

  • Select Cash Drawer Access from the System Event Type dropdown

This report displays both automatic and manual cash drawer opens, along with the associated employee and timestamp, helping support auditing and accountability.

πŸ’‘ Pro Tips

  • πŸ” Limit manual drawer access - Assign the Cash Drawer Open authorization only to trusted staff to reduce unnecessary or unauthorized drawer openings.

  • πŸ–¨οΈ Set a default printer or drawer - Selecting a default receipt printer helps prevent prompts during cash transactions, especially in locations with multiple drawers.

  • 🧾 Review drawer activity regularly - Use System Events with the Cash Drawer Access filter to monitor how often the drawer is opened and by whom.

  • πŸ“Œ Train staff on expected behavior - Make sure staff understand that the drawer opens automatically on cash payments and when a manual open is appropriate.
